”This loss isn’t gonna stop us from playing our ball,” says Wolny

The encounter between Great Britain and Russia provided the spectators with a wonderful game in every possible aspect. A home run came early in the first inning from Alicija Wolny’s bat for 3 RBIs.

Alicija Wolny got up to bat with two players on base, hit the ball nicely and sent it over the fence in right field. "I was kind of struggling with long hits so far on this tournament, so it was nice for me to hit a home run. I usually hit them more often, though I’m not a huge home-run hitter. This season, I hit about twelve of them," she said.

"It was a great game. Credit to Russia, because they had some great hits and got the runs they needed to," says also about the game itself, which the Great Britain lost although it lead by 4 runs until the bottom of fourth inning and then again by 3 runs in top of the fifth one. "Going into the game, we knew they’re having good pitching, but also great hitters and speed. We just focused to play our ball and not get into their game and I think we did a pretty good job with that. We made some great hits as well and we ended on the place we needed to," she added.

Despite the fact both teams were already qualified for the quartefinal pools before the game, they played very well and didn’t let anything for free to their opponents. "We wanted to win it for sure, but this isn‘t gonna stop us from our goal, which is to qualify for the World’s Championship. I hope we’ll just bounce back and start to play GB softball again," Wolny hopes.
